Week 5 Extended-Thor God of Thunder unless the Cops Show up!

 Howdy y'all!

So some behind the scene extra bonus stuff happened this week. We met a guy named Win a little while back and he's crazy. He admitted to us that he smoked pot and does tons of other super fun stuff. We showed up at his house to do service after calling him an hour prior to make sure he was good with it. When we got there, he was long gone and the cops were interviewing his girlfriend and her daughters so that was sketchy. We did end up doing service for him a little later on and that was fun. Also, he's really into the Norse mythology and stuff so he has tattoos of Thor and Odin on his arms and tons of other significant tattoos all over. He's also a biker and he keeps two bikes parked in front of his house like a total boss.
We were walking down the road near a friend's house another day and we knocked on a couple doors. The first was a young guy who was cool. His baby son kept waving at us and making faces which was awesome. His neighbor a couple doors down is a huge giants fan so instead of starting with a robotic door routine I said that my comp and I had been debating if the giants were gonna have a winning season, then asked his opinion. He said he thinks they will and that we can stop by another time and talk to him, so hopefully that will go well.
We met with Tina again but this week was a little different. She had some questions about our beliefs, but instead of waiting for us to come again, she decided to turn to the mighty Google for answers. She asked if we beleive that Joseph Smith is a God and we worship him. Fortunately I was prepared for these questions. Side note, if you haven't before, go to the gospel library under the restoration and church history section and select gospel topics essays. There you will find great essays that help explain some hard topics that people will ask questions about. This resource helped me to explain our beliefs about Joseph Smith, but Elder McArthur and I didn't stop there, we went a step farther and explained that we all have the potential to become like our Heavenly Father. This was a very foriegn concept to Tina, but after we explained it all to her, she was pretty well shocked. We are pretty positive she believes what we've taught her, but she is understandably  scared to make major changes in her life. I know that wasn't super long but that's the VIP story for this week. Thanks for all the love!

PS- Sister Sweat, I met the family of one of your old roommates and they are chill.

Some nice sauce packets from Taco Bell that are helping me prepare for when
I reenter the dating pool post mission

Elder McArthur wasted a ton of money on a bag of chips and opened it to find that
his Takis were tiny and the bag was 85% air...he was not amused!

Week 14 - If I Focused on a Silly Thing Like Snow

Hey Everyone! This week has been intense! I'm leading the area and training for anyone that's behind.  Also I'm still in Augusta, Georgia and I'm convinced I'll probably just be here my whole mission, which wouldn't be too bad. Highlights from the week: -Sister Miller fed us again and gave us Cuban sandwiches that were so good. As a wise Elder McArthur would have said "these are so good imma smack ma grandma!" (Don't worry grandma I would never smack you over a sandwich) (sorry just reread that take 2: don't worry grandma I would never smack you over anything ever) (that applies to you too Nana). -We got to play ultimate frisbee with some new friends, and while my team did lose it was super fun, and I had some nice highlight plays. -It has rained so much recently that we are more surprised when it isn't raining.  At first, we hated it, but now Elder Christensen and I are loving the rain. -In order to increase positivity, Elder Christensen...

Week 7 - Frisbees and Free Food

Hey guys! This week was pretty uneventful for the most part. I got to meet a bunch of new Elders, two of which are just starting their training. It's weird to think that I'm not the new guy anymore. Lyndon has been progressing well and will probably be baptized this transfer if he continues to recover from his stroke. The climax of this week was probably Saturday when I got to play frisbee with some friends. They were pretty good, but nowhere near as fast or athletic as the kids at BYU, which made things a lot more fun for me. It felt good to get back on the field and win some games cause I had just gotten smoked by my D1 recruit companion in volleyball.  My companion is the new DL which means I'm gonna get to go on exchanges weekly, which will be a total blast, especially with all the new missionaries. I also got several opportunities to mend relationships with the other Elders in my district which was great. Little backstory: all the other Elders hated me all ...

Week 3 Conference and Columbians

Hey everyone! So yeah this week as you can probably guess has been crazy. That's kinda how missionary work works. This week was Zone Conference and that was amazing!  My mission President is a very inspired man. We are focusing mission wide on using the Alma and Amulek technique to help part member families. In the story of Alma and Amulek, Alma goes to the city of Ammonihah and is rejected. Alma had recently given up the judgement seat and the people of Ammonihah literally said you aren't the chief judge of us so we don't have to listen to you. I know it's like teaching 7 year olds. Alma is thrown out of the city and he starts to go home but on his way the same angel that struck him down when he was young and rebellious appears to him and says (excuse the Elder Smith translation) "Bro you need to go back to the city cause there are still people there that need you, but when you go back enter from the other side of the city and use a different approach. Oh by the...
