Week 14 - If I Focused on a Silly Thing Like Snow

 Hey Everyone!

This week has been intense! I'm leading the area and training for anyone that's behind.  Also I'm still in Augusta, Georgia and I'm convinced I'll probably just be here my whole mission, which wouldn't be too bad.

Highlights from the week:

-Sister Miller fed us again and gave us Cuban sandwiches that were so good. As a wise Elder McArthur would have said "these are so good imma smack ma grandma!" (Don't worry grandma I would never smack you over a sandwich) (sorry just reread that take 2: don't worry grandma I would never smack you over anything ever) (that applies to you too Nana).

-We got to play ultimate frisbee with some new friends, and while my team did lose it was super fun, and I had some nice highlight plays.

-It has rained so much recently that we are more surprised when it isn't raining.  At first, we hated it, but now Elder Christensen and I are loving the rain.

-In order to increase positivity, Elder Christensen and I implemented a rule which states: shouldst thou say or even imply a comment unto thine companion that be'eth negative in nature, regardless of what it is in reference to, both thee and thine companion shalt where ever thou art, stop and doeth 10 pushups in front of whoever be'eth around. (This is not enforced during comp inventory, on the sabbath day, or if one or both Elders are emotionally struggling and need a minute). We also have to list 10 things we like about life for every negative thing we say. That applies always.

-Elder Christensen perfected his brown sugar oatmeal pancake recipe and they are pretty dang good. I stick to the basics of scrambled eggs toast and ham, but Elder Christensen is awesome at spicing things up for us.

-A while ago, I met a lady named Riannah with my last companion. She was nice, but we lost contact with her, because she works a lot accept Sunday, and between stake and general conference, we didn't make it around to her house on a Sunday. This last Sunday Elder Christensen and I decided to go pay her a visit. It had been a while since we'd seen her, and I was optimistic but not super confident anything would happen. Plot twist, it ended up being an awesome teaching experience! Riannah was super into the lesson and definitely felt the spirit when we talk about the first vision. It was so cool to finally show Elder Christensen the potential I know this area has. Oh and to add a little icing on the cake Riannahs daughter Zariannah sat in on the lesson and also committed to read 3rd Nephi 11 and pray about if the Book of Mormon is true.

-I didn't mention this in my last email but conference was so AWESOME! I took notes differently than ever before, because I didn't have to worry about pounding people in seminary jeopardy afterwards. It was so cool to see how much more I got out of conference when I applied the skills I had gained from my youth, but in a more spiritual rather than competitive way.

- We got to give a blessing this week and that was awesome! I remember in the MTC being scared that I would have to give a blessing and freeze, and now it's probably my favorite thing in the world. I'm not sure the temple is awesome too, but I haven't been in a minute, and let's be honest the two aren't super comparable, but I digress.

- Elder Christensen and I have been loving the youth music hard core this week. Before my mission I thought it was ok, but I only listened to a few of the songs. Now there are very few I won't listen to. I don't think I got the gift of tongues, but I definitely got the gift of ears.

- I finally realized what President Nelson meant about our focus determining our happiness this week. My Nana emailed me about snow in Idaho and I jokingly said to myself, if I worried about a silly thing like snow, I would never be worried down here in Georgia. Then it hit me. I have been upset with it raining so much around here and wasting energy being mad, but if I had focused on the fact that its warm and it isn't going to snow, I would be so much happier. Basically, focus on the snow in life, not the rain.

That's all I got from this week.  Thanks for everyone's love and support! Till next week!

Week 4 Dinner and Dogs

Hey everyone! I'd like to clarify before we get started that I did not eat any dogs for dinner and no dogs were successful in eating me for dinner. This last week was so jam packed with stuff it's been hard trying to decide what is worthy of the main email. We set a rather ambitious goal for finding this week and the Zone leaders told us that if we reached our goal they would get us donuts. We saw so many miracles this week as we worked hard to reach that goal. The first miracle I can think of was Wednesday while I was on splits with Elder Woodhouse. We had a lesson fall through that was right next to a park so we decided to stop by the park and hit the bathrooms before our next appointment. When we got to the park there were 5 people that looked about our age crowded around the bathroom. We talked to them and it turns out they are super cool people. After throwing around a football for a few minutes and discussing their interests we got their numbers and they seem interested...

Week 1 in the Mission Field

Hey everyone! I have only been out a week but holy cow a ton has happened. I got to South Carolina on Wednesday and stayed at the mission home with President Monson and the other new missionaries. Thursday I was given my assignment and my companion. I was assigned to..... wait for it..... hold your breath..... just kidding don't do that.... Augusta Georgia!!! My companion's name is Elder McArthur and he's an absolute stud spiritually and in any sport you can think of. The first thing we did was go visit a friend. He's a super great guy that just had double knee surgery. He was probably sleeping cause of his medication so he couldn't answer the door. Before we left I felt impressed to knock on a door across the street. No one answered the door but as we stood there we heard the sound of a basketball being dribbled. We turned and saw a man coming home from working out. His name is Jaylin and he plays ball for a junior college. He grew up playing basketball with the ...

VIP Club

Congratulations!  You have been accepted into what you thought was my extended email list but is actually secretly the VIP elite platinum medallion section of the Elder Smith Fan Club which you were also accepted into even though you never applied. So buckle those seat belts cause its gonna be a fun ride. So I met a witch this week. She's a great super nice lady. She isn't currently a witch but she was before she converted to Christianity. She's been meeting with missionaries for a little while and hasn't really been progressing, but we had a wonderful conversation with her at the park about how God gave us choices and how we can use our agency to live up to our unlimited potential. She recently got married to a man I've only met once, but he seems very kind. She also has a daughter that is very nice. The daughter isn't her biological daughter she is the biological daughter of her friend that is in jail.  I got to witness one of the greatest Young Single Adult...
